Hi peeps, hope you have had a good start to 2013 so far, and that it only gets better from here :)

I have taken over @IndigenousX this week to ring in the New Year, and so I didn't have to ask anyone to give up the NY holidays to tweet for us.

On Thursday I spent the day tweeting about why I set up the @IndigenousX account, what I hope will happen with it in the future, and all sorts of other stuff that I like to talk about...

On Friday however, I had a random thought and put it online: If @IndigenousX got to 10K followers by the end of my week (Thursday 3rd Jan 2013) I would donate 1c each ($100 total, not much I know) for all of my followers to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). Over the following few hours a few other people said they would also kick in, and before I knew it we had over $1000 in donation pledges to help achieve the goal of #IndigenousXto10K... at last count, it was at $6135!!!

The ILF help Indigenous communities across Australia with literacy programs and resources. To learn more about their work, go to their website:

You can even see a map of the communities they have supported do far:

Many of us have already donated, or have promised to donate our pledge amounts whether @IndigenousX reach 10K followers or not, which I think is awesome. I'd hate to think that I denied the ILF donations because I was unable to get  2000 followers in the next two days, as is required! But, in saying that I really want to do it anyway... I think it would be the perfect end to this impromptu outpouring of support and generosity!

Thanks to all who donated or pledged to donate, all who have been tweeting wildly to help spread the word, all who have followed or RTd, and thank you for taking the time to read this.

NB: I think it is important to mention a few basic facts just for transparency's sake:

I am not employed by, or affiliated with the ILF. I am just a fan of their work. Many people have also offered to volunteer time or expertise, and while that is wonderful these offers really need to go directly to the ILF. I am in no position to be able to facilitate that other than by CCing them into the tweets...

Also, I am not trying to validate or verify the pledges that are being made (I don't think I could even if I did want to), I am just keeping a running tally as best as I can. In saying that though, I know many of the tweeps (if only from Twitter) who have donated and have complete faith that they will honour their pledges. There are also now various organisations and even a few Aussie celebrities who have thrown in as well :-)

Thanks again.

WE DID IT!!! We reached 10K followers with about 11 minutes to spare and raised over $10,000 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, with more donations still coming in :)

Thanks to everyone involved for all your help, support, generous donations and hard work in spreading the word to as many people as possible!!
